GOODWILL MESSAGE ON WORKERS’ DAY 2026

On behalf of the entire members of the Nigeia Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C (South East), I warmly felicitate with all workers across the South East region as we commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day, May 1st, 2026.

This special day offers us an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions of Nigerian workers who continue to drive the engine of our society under challenging circumstances.

I pay particular tribute to journalists and media professionals whose unwavering commitment to truth, accountability, and public enlightenment remains the backbone of our democracy.

Despite economic pressures, safety concerns, and evolving demands of the media landscape, you have remained steadfast in upholding the ethics of our noble profession. Your sacrifices—often unseen and underappreciated—are vital to nation-building, good governance, and the preservation of democratic values.

As we mark this year’s Workers’ Day, I urge media practitioners to remain resolute in professionalism, integrity, and courage. Let us continue to amplify the voices of the people, hold leaders accountable, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and unity of our region and nation.

I also call on governments and employers to prioritize the welfare, safety, and professional development of workers, especially journalists, whose role in shaping public discourse cannot be overstated.

Together, let us build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous society.

Happy Workers’ Day!

Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, JP
Vice President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)
