Royal Episcopal Evangelical Communion Diocese of Owerri Holds 22nd Annual Synod

The Royal Episcopal Evangelical Communion, Diocese of Owerri, is set to hold its 22nd Annual Synod from Thursday, 15th October, to Sunday, 18th October, 2026, bringing together bishops, clergy, delegates, church leaders, and members from across the Diocese for four days of worship, fellowship, deliberations, thanksgiving, and renewed commitment to the work of God.

The 22nd Annual Synod is themed “Evangelism, the Panacea to Church Growth,” with Matthew 20:19–20 serving as the biblical anchor for the gathering.

The theme underscores the central place of evangelism in fulfilling the Great Commission and advancing the mission of the Church.

As the Church continues to seek effective ways of reaching a changing world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Diocese of Owerri is expected to use the Synod as an opportunity to reflect on its evangelistic mandate, assess its progress, identify areas requiring greater attention, and chart a new course for sustainable spiritual and numerical growth.

The Synod will officially commence on Thursday, 15th October 2026, with the arrival and registration of delegates and participants.

The opening day will provide an opportunity for members of the Diocese to reunite in Christian fellowship and prepare spiritually and administratively for the activities ahead. A Holy Communion service will form an important part of the day’s programme, directing the attention of participants to the sacrifice of Christ and the unity of believers in the body of Christ.

The day will also feature the reading of reports, giving various arms and departments of the Diocese an opportunity to present accounts of their activities, achievements, challenges, and progress during the period under review.

The reports are expected to provide a clear picture of the state of the Diocese while helping delegates to deliberate on issues affecting the growth and effectiveness of the Church.

The second day of the Synod, Friday, 16th October, will feature a Bible Expository session, providing participants with deeper biblical insight into the theme of the Synod.

The exposition is expected to examine the biblical responsibility of every believer to take the Gospel beyond the walls of the Church and reach communities and individuals with the message of salvation.

With evangelism at the heart of the Synod’s theme, the Bible Expository session will serve as an important platform for spiritual renewal and practical reflection on how the Church can become more intentional and effective in evangelistic outreach.

The day will also include another Holy Communion service, alongside the reading of reports. Through worship, teaching, and administrative deliberations, delegates will continue to consider the spiritual and institutional development of the Diocese.

The third day, Saturday, 17th October, promises to be one of the major highlights of the Synod, with the presentation of the Bishop’s Charge.

The Bishop’s Charge is expected to provide an overview of the Diocese’s journey, reflecting on its accomplishments, challenges, opportunities, and future direction. It will also offer spiritual and administrative guidance to clergy and members as they seek to translate the Synod’s theme into practical action.

A major feature of the day will be the launch of the ₦500 million Diocesan Project.

The ambitious project represents a significant step in the Diocese’s development agenda and is expected to attract support from clergy, members, friends of the Diocese, and other well wishers. The project launch will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to demonstrate their commitment to the growth and advancement of the Church.

The ₦500 million target also reflects the Diocese’s vision of investing in projects that can strengthen its capacity for ministry, evangelism, worship, administration, and service to humanity.

The four day Synod will culminate on Sunday, 18th October 2026, with a Thanksgiving Service.

The service will provide an opportunity for the Diocese to return thanks to Almighty God for His faithfulness, guidance, protection, and blessings throughout the year. It will also serve as a celebration of the successful completion of the 22nd Annual Synod.

The Thanksgiving Service is expected to bring together the Synod delegates, clergy, congregations, families, friends, and invited guests in an atmosphere of worship and gratitude.

The 22nd Annual Synod of the Royal Episcopal Evangelical Communion, Diocese of Owerri, therefore comes at a significant moment in the life of the Diocese. It is not merely an annual gathering, but an opportunity for spiritual renewal, accountability, vision, fellowship, and renewed commitment to the mission of Christ.

As the Diocese gathers from 15th to 18th October 2026, the expectation is that the Synod will produce renewed zeal for evangelism, stronger unity among members, practical strategies for Church growth, and a fresh determination to advance the Gospel.

With faith, commitment, prayer, and collective action, the Royal Episcopal Evangelical Communion, Diocese of Owerri, looks forward to another fruitful chapter in its history as it continues to proclaim Christ and expand His Kingdom.
