The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has congratulated Heartland Queens on their remarkable qualification for the final of the 2026 President Federation Cup, describing the feat as a testament to hard work, resilience and the growing strength of women’s football in the state.
SWAN Imo in a press statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Cosmos Chukwuemeka and Secretary Tunde Liadi commended the Owerri-based side for overcoming stiff opposition on their journey to the final and expressed confidence that the team would represent the state with pride when they face Nasarawa Amazons in the title decider in Asaba on July 11.
The association also celebrated Imo-born basketball sensation, Ugonna Onyenso, on his selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, noting that his achievement is a source of inspiration for young athletes across the state and Nigeria. SWAN described his rise from the NBA Academy Africa to the world’s biggest basketball stage as a shining example of dedication and excellence.
SWAN Imo urged both Heartland Queens and Onyenso to remain focused as they continue to fly the flag of Imo State on national and international stages, assuring them of the support and goodwill of sports stakeholders and fans from the state.
