The Imo State Football Association mourns the demise of two Nigerian football gladiators, Chiefs Adegboye Onigbinde and Henry Nwosu (MON).

Late Chief Onigbinde noted for discipline was a respected football technocrat whose contributions to Nigerian football remains indelible.

Imo FA Chairman, Barr Ifeanyi Dike said the late Modakeke High Chief contributed to the development of football in Nigeria.

“Chief Onigbinde was in a class of his own. He had no tolerance for indiscipline nor excuses. He was a football czar who contributed to the development of players and coaches across the country.

“He was a father figure within the Nigerian football community whose wisdom and dedication improved the game. We pray that God grants him eternal rest.

“Our prayers are with his immediate family, the Modakeke community which he represented well, the people of Osun State where he hailed from, and the entire Nigerian and international football communities”, Dike said.

Further, he mourned the passage of Imo State born excellent midfielder, Chief Henry Nwosu (MON) and Heartland FC board member.

“I’m personally pained by the passage of Chief Henry Nwosu because we lost one of our best, who was always ready to support football development in the State.

“Henry was not just an excellent midfielder during his hay days. He etched Imo State name in the history books as the youngest member of the legendary Green Eagles squad that lifted the nation’s first continental title at the 1980 African Cup of Nations on home soil.

“In Imo State, where he was a board member of Heartland Football Club, he offered insights, encouragement, inspirations, amidst laughter.

“We in Imo State will miss his too numerous to mention contributions to the leather game and his warm friendship during football activities.

“It is our prayer that the Lord rest his soul and comfort his family and friends, community, Imo State, and his numerous fans and supporters.

“On behalf of the Imo State Football Association, and all football lovers in the state, we commiserate with Nigerians on the passage of these two great icons. It is our prayer that the Almighty God will rest their souls and grant their families and associates, the grace to bear their passing”, Dike said.
