In a midweek match played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri, the Edo Queens beat Heartland Queens of Owerri with 1-0
This wasn’t just a match for the home side, it was a critical battle in their campaign, a chance to solidify their standing.
The 1st half of the game ended 0-0, as heartland missed opportunities hung heavily on them through out the 1st half
The second half was a story of relentless . The home team threw everything forward. Shots were blocked, crosses were cleared, and when they did break through, the Edo goalkeeper was a wall, pulling off several spectacular saves to deny certain goals.
The Edo Queens gave the goal that devastated Heartland Queens through a Free kick and maintened it till the final whistle blew, confirming a 1-0 defeat against Heartland Queens.
Coach Obi Ogbala of Heartland Queens during the post match press conference, discribed the defeat as painful.
He regretted that his team had the chances of scoring but could not utilize the chances.
He stated that they created the openings. The crossbar, the missed touches and that football can be cruel.
Acknowledging that his team did their best, he said .
“This is not the end of the game. Yes, we have lost a battle today, and it hurts. It hurts the players, it hurts me, it hurts our supporters, but the season is still very much on.
We still have chances. The league table is not decided by one match in the middle of the week.
“We have matches ahead of us, several of them. Each one is a new opportunity. We will go back, work harder, correct these mistakes in front of goal, and fight f
or every single point”.
