Hon. Bright Obinna Ekwebelem has been confirmed the new Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Imo State, by the National Working Committee of the party.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri after his emergence, Ekwebelem described the mandate as a call to service, a reward of perseverance, and a charge to restore confidence in the party.
Acknowledging the limited time before the party’s primaries, Ekwebelem promised to hit the ground running.
“We have a narrow window, but we will use it wisely. My priority is to strengthen the party structure across all 27 local government areas. We must ensure that the SDP remains indivisible and ready for the task ahead.”
He vowed to work tirelessly against anything that would bring internal crises to the party.
“We will not tolerate impostors or saboteurs. The era of confusion and division is over. I call on all aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and come together, for us to build a strong, united, and winning SDP in Imo State”.
He extended heartfelt gratitude to the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam for finding him worthy to serve as state chairman.
“I thank the NWC for this confidence. I promise to work strictly in accordance with the party’s guidelines and constitution.
“We shall obey the rule of law, respect our internal processes, and uphold the SDP as a beacon of hope for Imo people”.
Hon. Ekwebelem however called on all stakeholders to join hands in repositioning the party in the state for the upcoming electoral battles, saying that the SDP under his watch would be defined by transparency, inclusivity, and unwavering commitment to the grassroots.
Adding his voice, the Owerri Zonal Chairman of the party, Hon Maduagwu Kevin, “Osunmanu 1 of Mbaike/Ogbaku” applauded the NWC for finding Hon. Ekwebelem worthy to serve as state chairman, and pledged their unalloyed support to the Gabam led Exco.p
