IMSU Alumni holds 2025 Convention.

The Global Imo State University Graduates Alumni (GIMSUGA) has concluded plans for this years convention scheduled to take place in Lagos Nigeria.

Addressing newsman during a press conference that took place at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre New Owerri recently,

stressed that the forthcoming Global Convention/Annual General Meeting of the Global Imo State University Graduates Alumni (GIMSUGA), scheduled to hold from Thursday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 17th, 2025, at MAN House, Ikeja, Lagos State.
Is for individual members who have acquired certificates, diplomas, or degrees from Imo State University, Owerri, with chapters in FCT, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Europe, Imo, Lagos, Rivers, and North America.

Dr Ahiara explained that their objectives include partnering with individuals and organizations to move society forward, supporting government efforts to uplift Imo State University, and contributing to solving problems of infrastructure, funding, and personnel needs.

 

The theme of the convention is “Empowering Excellence: Celebrating Our Heritage, Honouring Our Past and Inspiring Our Future.”

According to him, the Keynote Speech will be delivered by an esteemed IMSU Alumnus, Prof. Ezebunwa E. Nwokocha, immediate past Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan.

The event will also feature
Health Talk and Annual General Meeting as well as cultural displays and presentation of awards

The president further explained that the Global Imo State University Graduates Alumni, within the very short period of existence have achieved significant milestones.which include,
connecting Imo State University Owerri into the mainstream Alumni body of all Nigerian Universities-Association of Nigeria Universities Alumni (ANUA).

“This is the Alumni body of Imo State University Owerri duly recognized by (ANUA) presently I am the National Vice Chairman of ANUA, South East Zone.

“A recognition of the strength and position of our own Alumni Association among all Universities Alumni Association nationwide,
Keeping and strengthening the membership of the association,
Strengthening the relationship between Imo State University Owerri and the alumni association, Installation of over 36 units of solar powered streets lights within the campus,
Attracting an intervention project to the University worth N40 million from the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority for Solar Powered Borehole for the two female hostels in the university and Solar street lights, Renovation and activation of the 3 toilets building facilities in the university with water borehole activation and reticulation, Donation of mowing machines and accessories to the Imo State University Owerri, Donation of cutlasses to the University,
Sponsoring the cleaning/cutting of overgrown grasses within the university compound,
Donation of pieces of 20 computers and 10 pieces of Laser Jet printers to the University to aid the accreditation exercise
Production of mufflers as a mark of identity for members,
Attending to members’ welfare needs from time to time.

“These achievements demonstrate our commitment to the development of our Alma mater and the well-being of our members.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our association remains a force for good in the lives of our members and the university.

“As part of our commitment to meaningful impact, we will be unveiling a key legacy project during the convention: the “Digitally Compliant Office Initiative.”

“This project aims to equip each of the 17 faculties of Imo State University with a fully functional digital office, comprising a laptop, multifunction printer, internet router, internal cabling, and one-year paid internet access.
“This initiative will significantly enhance the digital capabilities of the university and improve the learning experience for students.
“This signature initiative is in line with our resolve to align the Alumni with the vision of the Visitor, His Excellency, Senator (Dr) Hope Uzodimma, CON, who is tirelessly working through the Governing Council to fully digitalise the Imo State University ecosystem”.

He enjoined all alumni members, patriotic Imo citizens, and stakeholders to participate in the convention, engage in meaningful discussions, and network with fellow alumni.

“I wish to thank the Grand Patron of our Alumni Association, His Excellency Distinguished Senator (Dr) Hope Odidika Uzodinma, CON for the appointment of Rev. Fr. Prof. P.A. Ogbonna as the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Governing Council and other council members, whom we have in our judgment as competent and distinguished Nigerians who have the capacity to turn the fortunes of the institution around for the better.
“We equally express gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. U.U. Chukwumaeze, SAN and Management Team of Imo State University for their support and collaboration.
“We pay deep appreciation to Prof. Mrs. Helen Ibeh, Director of Alumni Services and Excellence Award, for her efforts in ensuring the smooth functioning of alumni activities in Imo State University, Owerri”.
