There was an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm among members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and residents of Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area as Hon. Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans, a frontline aspirant for the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general election, paid a visit to the party leadership in the LGA.
The meeting, held at the residence of the ADC Orlu Zonal Chairman, Hon. Damian Ezeru, attracted party stakeholders, ward leaders, women leaders, youth leaders, and members drawn from the 12 INEC wards in Ohaji-Egbema.
Speaking after the formal introduction, the Ohaji-Egbema ADC Chairman, Hon. Pharm. Marshall Nokaa, appreciated leaders in the LGA for their support under his leadership and thanked the Zonal Chairman, Hon. Damian Ezeru; Rt. Hon. Gerald Alphonsus Irona, former Deputy Governor of Imo State; and His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, former Governor of the state, for their commitment to the leadership of the party at both national and state levels. Nokaa thereafter invited Hon. Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans to address party members on his aspiration.
Addressing the gathering, Evans, who arrived with supporters adorned in campaign T-shirts and accompanied by the Ogene Boys and other souvenirs in a convivial atmosphere, said he came with humility and conviction to formally inform party leaders and members of his desire to contest for the House of Representatives seat.
“My leaders, brothers, sisters, and friends, I have come here with great humility, conviction, and commitment to inform you that I am vying for the position of member representing Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency in the upcoming elections. It is a commitment I made after considering the abject and bleak political reality of our constituency, despite the abundant resources with which nature and God have endowed the people of Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West LGAs. I have, therefore, decided to offer myself to provide succor,” he said.
He added: “As a lawyer, education enthusiast, and philanthropist, with a track record of legal sagacity, educational empowerment, and community leadership, among others, I come to improve the quality of representation and to give the people of the constituency a voice that resonates with the totality of sociopolitical, sociocultural, and socioeconomic challenges at the floor of the Green Chamber.”
Seeking support for the party primaries and general election, Evans stated: “However, no matter how strong this desire may be, it cannot be fulfilled without your maximum support—first, to emerge at the upcoming primaries of our great party, and then to win the general elections, scheduled for January 6, 2027, according to the INEC timetable. By His grace, I have consulted with the good people of Oguta and Oru-West; I therefore seek your support to emerge victorious at both the primary and the general election. God bless you all.”
In his remarks, the host and Orlu Zonal Chairman, Hon. Damian Ezeru, commended Evans for his courage in joining the race, describing him as vibrant and experienced.
“As I said before, Chudi is our son. He has informed me of his intention in a personal capacity as the Zonal Chairman, as has Engr. Uche Peters, another son of Obiakpu, and two other aspirants. Our duty here is to encourage you to exercise your fundamental rights as enshrined in our Constitution. Against all odds, ADC in Ohaji-Egbema and the Federal Constituency is very resonant and ready to go into the elections. It is up to you, as an aspirant, to engage party leaders and the entire constituency for support,” Ezeru said.
He also dismissed reports alleging that the party’s ticket for the federal constituency had already been allocated to a particular candidate.
“Please, permit me to use this time to correct the falsehood being circulated that the ticket of the House of Representatives has been given to someone. This constituency is under the leadership of our tested and trusted leader, Engr. Gerald Alphonsus Irona is a due process-driven leader who does not work against the principles of democracy. The primaries are coming up in May, so it would be the handiwork of mischief-makers to spread such claims.
“All of you are aspirants and will be given equal rights to pursue your political dreams. Whether the party adopts a direct or consensus method for its primaries, it is my candid advice that aspirants should unite and support whoever emerges, and together challenge the ruling party. We have been winning elections in this constituency; come 2027, we will do it again,” he concluded.
As part of his appreciation to party leaders, Hon. Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans donated the sum of N1 million to support transportation logistics.
Giving the vote of thanks, Barr. (Mrs.) Joy Chioma Anyanwu, Southeast Zonal Woman Leader, thanked members and leaders for attending and commended Evans for supporting the party. She also urged women to leverage the gender-friendly policy of the party to advance their political participation.
“ADC is a gender-friendly political party, from the national level to the polling units, unlike the ruling party. And we have leaders like His Excellency, Peter Obi; Emeka Ihedioha; Gerald Irona; Achike Udenwa; Emeka Nwajiuba; and others. Let us utilize this opportunity to continue canvassing support for the party and bringing more women into politics, because politics without women is not an option,” she said.
Party leaders in attendance included Chief Hon. Damian Ezeru, Orlu Zonal Chairman; Barr. Chioma Anyanwu, Southeast Zonal Woman Leader; Pharm. Marshall Nokaa, ADC Ohaji-Egbema LGA Chairman; Aventus Nwadiaru, Vice Chairman; Mrs. Chinyere Iferobia, Ohaji-Egbema LGA Woman Leader; Engr. Dele Grammar, Organization Secretary, Ohaji-Egbema; Hon. Ejikeme Emmanuel, Ohaji-Egbema LGA Publicity Secretary; Hon. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Grammar; Chief Ajagala; Hon. Hipolite Igwe; Eugene Oshimiri; P.C. Igwe; Emeka Mmanwoke; Chidi Ibe; Uche Uzoka; all ward chairmen, secretaries, women leaders, and youth leaders; and Ejimadu Prisca Ngozi.
Members of the Chudi Egwe Evans team present included Comr. Nwasoro Sunny, Chief Campaign Strategist and Coordinator of the CALLY Chudi Evans Scholarship Foundation; Okani Steven Arinze, Media Aide; Mr. Paladius Oba; Engr. Desmond Kelechi; and Engr. Nonye Evans, among others.
The visit underscores the growing acceptance of Hon. Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans has been among the leaders of the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency since he declared his intention to run for the federal seat, as well as the increasing strength of the ADC within the zone.
